Bere Architects completes Focus House in London

House to focus on

Focus House is something of an anomaly in its setting of traditional Victorian terraced housing, its zinc envelope contrasting markedly with the beige Victorian brick work of its environs. Focus House was designed as a low cost, low energy, low maintenance alternative to the standard family dwelling. Built on a wedge shaped parcel of land using cutting edge sustainable materials, the 250 m2 structure is spatially innovative and yields a very low carbon footprint. The ground floor opens from a width of 2.8 metres through to 7 metres to the rear – designed as a general living space and dining area furnished with oak flooring and rosewood fittings. Large Scandinavian sliding windows span the rear of the building, looking out over a zen-like garden and allowing natural light to flood in.
